Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 2625 Under Scrutiny

Chapter 2625 Under Scrutiny

Davis and Ellia were returning to the inheritance site upon being called by Nadia. However, there were also two of them tagging along with them. One was Mystic Diviner Hailac, and the other was Myria.

"Oh… to think I had missed divining such an opportunity. Has Tia already surpassed me in divination arts…?"

As they passed the first trial, Mystic Diviner Hailac couldn't help but wonder out loud. The pressure from the trial and the bottomless nature of the abyss seemed to be making her confidence waver.

"That's unlikely." Davis shook his head, "However, if you really were to teach her what you know, then it is inevitable. Are you fine with it?"

Mystic Diviner Hailac lowered her head. It was unknown what she thought as she didn't reply.

Just as they were about to reach the statue on the second level, Mystic Diviner Hailac opened her mouth.

"As a Mystic Diviner, my life would be shorter than most cultivators since I tend to go against the heavens. I can only swim through the vague concept known as fate, so for me to envy someone is not beneficial for me. I can only try to acquire more by imparting knowledge and procuring wealth from others. I still stay true to my words."

She looked at Davis, causing him to turn to look back at her silky silver hair dancing in the wind before he smiled.

"That's more like it. Should Tia improve beyond my expectations, I will definitely reward you with riches."

"I'm already grateful that you saved my life, but if you're going to send me more wealth, I won't decline~ Hehehe~"

Mystic Diviner Hailac sweetly giggled while, on the other hand, Davis blinked as he felt like this woman was forgetting the fact that he was a Divergent and becoming more casual with him, not that he complained since he didn't like to be viewed from a negative standpoint for no reason.

It was just… he felt that it could end up having untoward consequences for her, so it didn't make sense for her to be accompanying him here unless she wanted to risk it and improve or just felt really grateful, which he felt only the former was possible as they weren't acquainted much yet.

Nonetheless, he was worried about what was going on with the trial as he made his way up. Like him, Ellia and Myria didn't experience much turbulence. They smoothly rose up the statue and entered the shining gate, arriving at the inheritance site.

It was only Mystic Diviner Hailac who found it hard to climb up, but eventually, she arrived, only to become stunned as she saw a plethora of people.

"Ranked fifteenth, Desolate Ice Spear, Yulisez." She clenched her teeth, looking at Davis come into confrontation with him.

"Wait in line."

Davis looked at Yulisez. The latter was a tall man, standing over seven feet, but his black-golden spear was just as tall as him, if not even a bit longer. He held it by his side like a gatekeeper and blocked the way, causing Davis to blink before he panned his gaze, noticing that many more true disciples were here.

Although he didn't see Rea Tyriel nor Black Tyriel, there was a slight suspicion in his heart that they had leaked this location, but he also felt that it was unlikely. After all, a day had passed since they entered this secret location, and their crossing was bound to cause some undulations each time they ventured through the secret entrance, causing others to pick up that minute change in the atmosphere as long as they were near.

Even if Rea Tyriel didn't spread this location's specialty, it was bound to have visitors sooner or later.

"So it's you, Rakestream. I didn't think you would manage to divine this place."

"Hailac, I also didn't expect your skills to improve."

A purple-robed man stood behind the group of true disciples. He possessed starry eyes, and his eyes seemed to sparkle upon witnessing Hailac. However, even though he was smiling, his face seemed ghastly pale.

"Aiya, you seem hurt." Hailac's lips curved, displaying a joyous reaction upon sensing him being injured.

She instantly saw through his facade of maintaining a healthy countenance. After all, to divine this site when a Divergent like the Emperor of Death had already entered was bestowing himself a death sentence.

"It's nothing, but I'm glad that you're not hurt."

"Heh~ So fake…"

Rakestream cupped his hand politely, causing Mystic Diviner Hailac to scoff as she looked away. She hated him for being so presumptuous and fake, but he was also none other than the man who was currently better than her in divination, considered the best Mystic Diviner in the Immortal Rankings.

Nonetheless, since she knew that he was not only insincere but also cunning, he wouldn't have done this dangerous divination without preparing a sacrifice or two. Such heavenly resources that would endure the backlash were difficult and expensive to obtain, but she knew he had two of them, and one of them was the reason for survival.

She also had one in her spatial ring, but that was her trump card for divination. She wouldn't use it easily unless it was to defend her life.

Hearing the back and forth between the two Mystic Diviners, Davis understood how this place was found out by so many people in one day.

Nonetheless, he didn't want to send them out, as, unlike Rea Tyriel, they weren't offended and were here to teach his women a lesson. They were just blocking him, thinking he was late to the party. He shook his head, wanting to be reasonable one time before making a move, but at this moment, he looked past them.

An icy-white-robed spirit rushed past the group of true disciples and appeared before him.

He narrowed his eyes at Pia, wondering why she was here when she should be in the trial with Tanya. Was she sent out not to interfere in the trials?

He tried to contact Nadia, but she wasn't responding for some reason any more, but he could sense that her doppelganger was still nearby.

"Speak." He stared at Pia and commanded, causing her eyes to tremble but still, she opened her mouth.

"Emperor of Death, Mistress Tanya has won the inheritance."

"That's good."

Davis's narrowed eyes lit up in delight. He knew that his Tanya would be the victor, more or less, as the other two would not battle it out with her. They were walking on different paths, after all.

"Also…" Pia seemed hesitant as she lightly raised her hand, causing Davis to refocus his gaze back on her.

"What is it?"

Pia lightly looked around before she sent him a soul transmission.

"The Frostcloud Sword Empress told me to lie that the three of them have chosen to forsake you to have a chance at becoming the Frostcloud Sword Empress's personal disciple, saying that she would hand me over the inheritance if I did so and also said that there was no falsehood in her words."

Pia felt her blue lips go dry as she pursed her lips, appearing nervous.

"…" Standing before her, Davis lightly blinked as he smiled, "Don't you want the inheritance?"

"I don't dare!" Pia's expression changed as she raised her hands and shook, "Besides, I am not proficient with swords… it would be wasted in my hands… There's no reason for me to lust over it and lie. Please believe me..."

Davis couldn't help but inwardly chuckle at Pia's panicking appearance. He remembered that she was brave and stubborn back then, designating him as an enemy to protect Iesha and her home despite the danger she put herself in but now, she was thoroughly afraid of him.

"Well done." Davis nodded, "You're becoming more and more loyal and aiding Tanya's cultivation, proving your worth. I think I can reward your efforts for that in the future, so continue to work hard."

"… You… you believe in my words…?" Pia was taken aback.

When she came here, she was prepared to be heavily investigated or even tortured, as she knew how he cared about his women. He destroyed enormous powers for them. The burden she felt was not light, and she already had a disobedient past, so for her to say anything would only put her under scrutiny.

However, he was composed and listened to her words without extracting information from her through violent methods such as soulscour, causing her to be full of confusion.

"You think I would keep someone whom I don't believe right by my side, in one of my women at that?"

Davis smilingly shook his head and walked past her.

"… Master…" Pia bit her lips. When both her mistresses, Iesha and Tanya, looked up to him and respected his words, his opinion was as important as theirs to her, so she couldn't help but feel vindicated when he finally said that he believed her.

"Let's go."

"Yes~"

He gestured, causing Pia to reply with some delight while Ellia couldn't help but shake her head. This was slightly manipulative of him as she knew exactly who Davis believed. She knew that although he probably hadn't believed Pia before and only believed in Tanya and Iesha to keep her in check, he would've started to believe her right about now after using his Enigmatic Heart Intent on her.

However, she didn't comment on it and let Pia remain delighted.

"I told you to stop."

*Bang!~*

Yulisez stomped the blunt end of his spear on the ground, causing it to reverberate as it unleashed powerful undulations that tried to slow down Davis as though he was crossing through a crumbling space.

Its undulations were at Level Nine Immortal Stage, but its prowess reached Level Three Immortal King Stage. His spear's reverberation was also like sharp edges seeking to cut the things that entered that space.

Davis narrowed his brows as his figure flashed, his arm swinging in an upward arc.

*Paah!~*

Yulisez was sent flying to the side while his black-golden spear stayed rooted to the spot, seemingly stunned that its master was sent flying even before it realized what was going on.

"Fuck off!"

Davis scoffed at the flying Yulisez before he continued to make his way forwards, excited to see his Tanya but also wary of what the Frostcloud Sword Empress exactly wanted with him.
