Chapter 2031: The Viridian Tree
Chapter 2031: The Viridian Tree
Davis caught up to Myria and looked at her drivel to herself.
"To top it off, it seems to have a spirit. The grade of this tree seems to be quite high, well enough to give birth to high-quality seeds in its fruits."
"What's wrong? Do you know about this tree and the fruit it bears?"
Davis looked at the viridian tree and its ample fruits as he asked Myria, who then turned to look at him with a weary look on her face.
"What? You're growing it without knowing what it is?"
Davis shrugged, "I do know that it allows one to undergo reincarnation after having its essence painfully etched into one's soul when eaten. Other than that, I don't know its name nor its origin. The Emperor Grade knowledge of alchemy doesn't seem to have a clue of what it is either, at least not from the records I read."
He wondered if the Glorious Pill Palace possessed more information and felt that they should. Nonetheless, he appeared as ignorant as possible so the great Myria could enlighten him without him having to ask again or pay something for it.
And as expected, Myria opened her mouth.
"It's called the Viridian Afterlife Path Tree. As you said, it has the ability to make a mortal existence reincarnate, so when they wake up and reunite with a branch of this tree, they can awaken their previous life's memories. However, this fruit only allows one to reincarnate three times. Any more than that, their spiritual soul essences would be harmed, meaning that they would no longer be truly present in this world."
Davis's lips couldn't help but twitch.
At that time, if he didn't stop Alia Silverwind by initiating trade with Mival Silverwind, she would've died instead of reincarnating. After all, this life was her third reincarnation.
"What? You used this fruit on someone?"
"Not exactly."
Davis shook his head, not willing to go into detail, "So, the Viridian Afterlife Path Tree doesn't seem to be useful to you. Why were you astonished upon seeing it?"
"True. It is a lightning-attributed tree with the property of life, but as it fuses with the soul essence, it undergoes a minute change and produces a tiny strand of reincarnation energy that allows them to carry their memories into the next life."
"You want to harvest that tiny strand of reincarnation energy?"
Davis asked to which Myria shook her head, "That kind of tiny strand couldn't be extracted. After all, it intricately fuses with one's soul imprint. In any case, this isn't that important to others, but it's important to me."
"Is it the main ingredient to some pill you badly need to make?"
Myria looked like she had heard something hilarious.
"Would you believe me if I said that it could be counted as just one of the thousands of auxiliary ingredients?"
Davis's lips twitched, "What kind of pill is that?"
"An immortal pill, probably the most valuable pill ever created." Myria indifferently uttered, "As I told you, the ingredient itself isn't worth much but finding it in the vast immortal world is the problem. Sometimes, even if you just want a mortal grade herb, you may never find it until hundreds and thousands of years later."
Davis: "…"
"I'm not lying about the uses of the Viridian Afterlife Path Tree itself. You can ask Ellia if you want. Although this tree isn't worth anything compared to the things you asked for, it is very difficult to find it even in the immortal world. I want it, and therefore, I can agree to the exchange."
Davis stared at Myria's nonchalant face. He couldn't find any fault in her words because her words sounded sincere. Besides, after quoting Ellia, he really couldn't stay suspicious of her words.
"Deal."
Myria faintly smiled on hearing his words, "Then? How do I pass on the knowledge to you without soul force?"
"Of course, through the primitive method of using ink and a scroll."
Davis reached out his hand and held the stationeries, almost causing Myria's lips to twitch but inwardly, he was astonished that she could perform knowledge transfer although he still expected it.
Myria didn't take what he presented and headed towards the tree.
"Careful, that tree has a spirit-"
"I know. I'm going to grow them anew with its seeds. Also, tell me where you obtained these lightning strands. The property of life in them is very weak, but they would suffice, providing an increase in their rate of growth."
Myria plucked the viridian fruits, leaving the viridian tree alone, and as she did so, she placated the spirit of the tree while having her hand on the bark.
"What are you looking at?" Myria looked towards him once she was finished, "One tree and its fruits won't suffice for what I need. I need a thousand fruits of this kind."
"What the hell are you even concocting!?"
Davis was already dumbfounded that she did not take the very first spirit tree he grew as it was part of their deal, but her explanation almost gave him a heart attack as it made him flinch.
"Didn't I tell you?" A hint of pride was visible on Myria's face, "It's for the most valuable Immortal Grade Pill that was ever created. Ah, I forgot to tell you that it is one of the five most important auxiliary ingredients of that pill."
Davis remained stunned for a few seconds before he wryly smiled.
"Does that mean that I got bamboozled?"
"No, I still end up with the short stick. I must be a fool to agree to this exchange, so quickly explain where you found its lightning strands. If you don't want to explain, then procure some of those lightning strands for me. If there's none, then forget about it. I'll be taking the display cases later when I need it."
Myria had no chill to be suspected, barking at him before turning around and looking at other resources. It seemed like she wanted to try her luck again.
Davis sighed and followed her, explaining the location where he obtained the Viridian Afterlife Path Tree in the Hundred Devil Thunder Archipelago while Myria explored the ninth floor.
At the end of the search, Myria appeared a bit tired, seemingly not finding anything worthy of her gaze. Her expression appeared like she cursed her bad luck.
'As expected, it seems like she's still exhausted, not having fully recovered….'
Davis saw the exhaustion in her eyes. Nonetheless, she summoned a feather and scroll out of her spatial ring and began writing the pill recipe he asked for before giving it to him minutes later. She also handed over a spatial ring that contained a plethora of ingredients required to concoct the Supreme Ebbing Sigil Pill.
"The exchange is complete. I'm going to meditate for the whole day, so don't enter the fourth floor during this time."
Her sweet lips let out a gentle sigh before she turned around and left.
"Wait…!"
However, Davis stopped her, causing her to turn around, her face still as a silent lake.
"What?"
Davis opened his mouth, but he sighed first.
"So, I was wondering if there is any way to strengthen a pill. Can you tell me if there is any way that I can strengthen the effects of the pill that you gave me?"
While Myria was touring the ninth floor, he had checked the Supreme Ebbing Sigil Pill and found out that it was an Advanced-Tier Pill. Naturally, creating a Perfect Tier Pill Peak-Level Emperor Grade Pill, no, a near Immortal Grade Pill like the Supreme Ebbing Sigil Pill should be almost impossible unless he wanted to exhaust himself to death repeatedly.
Myria pursed her lips, staring at his handsome face before she spoke.
"There are indeed ways to strengthen or improve the effects of a pill. You should be aware of the most common way, that is to imbue an inscription made from similar ingredients as the pill."
"Hmm. I am aware."
Davis nodded. However, the problem with that method was failure meant ruining the pill. Besides, how many times could one ruin the pill before they found the right inscription to imbue on the pill?
It was extremely difficult and resource-depleting that it could make an alchemist sect wither away from bankruptcy.
"Other methods range from repeated refinements using the same cauldron spirit as a source. Another method is called the Waste-Refinement Powder, where you utilize the pill waste of many concoctions to improve the effects of one last pill. However, these are all orthodox methods. There's an unorthodox method where one sacrifices their own karmic nature to imbue the pill and strengthen, which is called Karmic Embodiment."
"Karmic Embodiment, you say? Davis blinked.
"Yes, there are more. If you want to know more and learn any of these methods, pay up something of worth. Otherwise, I'll see you later."
Myria turned around and left, looking exasperated with his requests, although it seemed that she was too prideful to tell him that she needed some rest to him.
Davis raised his hand, wanting to know more. However, he didn't stop her this time.. Instead, his lips slowly curved into a blatant smile.
