Demons Beside You

Chapter 573 - : Suspect

Chapter 573: Suspect

Sharan looked at Chen Zhao. She pulled her gun out at him.

“If you take another step forward, I’ll blast your brains out.”

Chen Zhao could only stop his movements.

Sharan looked at him. “Why are you here?”

“Do I have to answer you?” Chen Zhao glanced at Sharan and then turned to Gaia. “Let’s go out to talk.”

Clenching her jaw, Sharan asked, “The person inside is your friend, right? Don’t you want to catch the person responsible?”

“I don’t need you to worry.” Chen Zhao waved his hand.

“What if I know who it is?” Sharan asked.

“Then go catch him. What are you doing here for?”

“I don’t have evidence.”

“You don’t have evidence, but we do? We don’t even know who it is.”

“That’s why I need to get some valuable clues from your mouths,” Sharan said.

Chen Zhao looked at Gaia. “Do you have clues?”

“No, I got this officer’s call and hurried over.”

“What is your relationship with the victim?” Sharan asked.

“I’m his coach,” Gaia said. “His boxing and fitness coach.”

Chen Zhao thought for a moment. “I’m his sponsor.”

He was an illegal doctor. He wouldn’t say that he’s a doctor before a cop.

“Do you know if he has any enemies?”

“What kind of enemies?”

“Those who had conflicts with him.”

“I hit him every day,” Gaia said. “Does that count?”

“No.”

Chen Zhao looked at Sharan. “You say you know who the guy responsible is. Can you tell us who did it?”

“I don’t know either,” Sharan replied.

“You f*cking with me?”

“Yeah, and what can you do about it?”

“Fine. You win,” Chen Zhao spat. He didn’t plan on going up against Sharan.

He couldn’t offend American cops. Any slightly bigger actions could get him arrested.

“Gaia, what exactly happened?”

“I don’t know, but I suspect that it’s related to the bankers.”

“What bankers?”

“The bankers for the competition’s bet,” Gaia said.

“Is there a suspect?”

“No. There are around 100 bankers and I’m not familiar with them. Tiger doesn’t have any enemies. They wouldn’t break his arms with a baton after crashing a car into him.”

Thud!

Chen Zhao slammed a fist into the glass door.

Sharan, standing in the distance, came over immediately. Looking at the glass on the ground, she said, “What are you doing?”

“I just leaned on the glass and it broke by itself. Thankfully, I didn’t get too close. Otherwise, I would’ve gotten hurt.”

Chen Zhao brushed off the shards on his hands. Sharan glanced at the glass on the ground.

The thickness of the glass door wasn’t something that a normal person could break.

“Let’s go talk over there.” Chen Zhao pulled Gaia away.

Sharan watched Chen Zhao’s back, clenching her jaw.

“So, you’re saying that you don’t have any clue either?”

“I can have someone investigate, but it won’t be that easy.”

Chen Zhao touched his nose. “Can we find the odds of those bankers?”

Gaia’s eyes brightened. This wasn’t hard to find out.

After all, the bankers had to reveal their odds to the betters.

They couldn’t hide it even if they wanted to, so their primary price was very easy to find.

“Wait, I’ll call someone,” Gaia said.

“You can find out now?”

It was only five a.m. Everyone was probably sleeping.

“This is when the gamblers are the most active,” Gaia said.

After a pause, Gaia put down her phone.

“Right now, for most of them, the odds for Tiger and his next opponent is 1.05 to 2.4.”

“His rate is that much higher than his opponent?” Chen Zhao was a bit surprised.

“Tiger KO’ed all his opponents in the last three competitions. All the bankers have moved him up a tier.”

Chen Zhao squinted. “What if news of Tiger getting hurt is spread now?”

“They’ll start to adjust the odds or even lock the handicap.”

“Then, what if I bet that Tiger will win?” Chen Zhao asked. “Would they refuse to pay up?”

“Most bankers wouldn’t, at least on the surface.” Gaia looked at Chen Zhao. “You want to bet?”

“Which odds have the biggest difference from others?”

Since Gaia suspected that the bankers or handicappers had attacked Tiger, then those bankers would definitely try to make a small fortune from this.

Everyone knew that Tiger was clearly stronger than his opponent.

The bankers could tell; the gamblers could tell as well.

In a regular handicap, Tiger’s loss rate would be much lower than his opponent.

Only those irregular ones would publish a different rate to make a fortune from this.

Gaia thought for a moment. “Dawson Bank. Tiger and his opponent’s rate is 1.7 to 1.”

“Do you know who controls this one?”

“No.” Gaia shook her head.

“I don’t care if they’re responsible or not. Help me bet $50,000 there. Wait, don’t do it yet. Do it tomorrow.”

“What are you going to do?”

“Wait for this build up before betting. Then find some journalists to report about this. Other handicappers will definitely revise their odds too.”

“Lend me some cash,” Gaia said. “I want to bet too. I’ll do $50,000 like you. Oh, you promise you can get Tiger into the rings in four days, right?”

“Of course. No problem.”

Gaia wiped her forehead and licked her lips.

She looked excited.

After all, this was a fortune. Anyone would be unable to suppress their excitement.

Gaia and Tiger were different.

Tiger was a pure athlete—a boxer. He was no different from regular people outside the rings.

But if someone went up against Gaia, it would be suicide.

She didn’t have much power, but she had a lot of connections.

If she wanted revenge, the consequences wouldn’t be much smaller than those gangsters.

“Are you sure Dawson Bank are the ones who’d attacked Tiger?”

“I’m pretty sure,” Gaia said. “It’s not a normal handicap. Tiger is so strong, but they actually raised his odds. They wouldn’t dare to do that unless they’re sure Tiger would quit the competition because of this.”

“Is betting that shady?”

“Most handicappers are normal. The biggest possibility is them taking all the money. This usually happens when the bankers lose and can’t afford the bet. But some bigger bankers would use all sorts of methods to get a higher return, such as controlling the result of the game. Tiger’s attack is a classic example.”
