Death… And Me

Chapter 4297: Four

Chapter 4297: Four

Back in the clearing, Wurshan didn’t know what was happening there at the moment. Around four hours earlier, he was talking to Roan through the Ring Communicator when he suddenly heard a loud sound. Immediately, the communicator went off as a result.

When he turned around in the sound’s direction, he understood that it was something with their airplane that they had left in the clearing. So, without delay, he ordered everyone to run back to the airplane to check its state.

All the almost hundred cultivators and the extra support team rushed over, just to see their airplane crushed as smoke rose up and a black liquid fell from the fuselage. "What did this?"

*Bang!*

*Arrgghhh!*

Suddenly, a distorted Carcatira Alligators jumped out of the swamp trees, catching their group from behind. A single swing of its tail sent at least twenty of the Anchor Gods flying, soon falling and kicking several times on the ground.

Wurshan and the other Aura Gods that had been kept in reserve saw that and couldn’t help but take a step back.

*Bang, bang, bang, bang!*

The alligator swept through the cultivators, crushing some to death instantly while injuring others. The cultivators tried to strike back, but they couldn’t even move past the alligator’s defense.

As the alligator took more and more cultivators down, and vomited that black goo from its mouth, which completely immobilized those who were still alive. It was extremely thick and seemed to completely drain any Godly Energy the cultivators tried to use.

Wurshan and the other Aura Gods only had to see it for a moment to understand it was a Godly Predator, so they didn’t try to fight it. Instead, they all turned around and ran away. There was simply no chance of victory against that thing. They had nothing prepared to deal with it either.

However, the alligator seemed a lot more interested in the Aura Gods than the Anchor Gods. The moment it saw them trying to escape, it jumped again with its enormous body.

It was incredibly fast for its size, or maybe it was due to all the Godly Energy that kept leaking nonstop from its body. Little did they know, but the alligator was overflowing with godly energy from the Godly Beast Crystals it ate back in the egg’s zone.

Wurshan tried to defend himself, using all his strength, but it only delayed the alligator for a short moment. The others tried the same and even tried to work together. Yet, the alligator’s defense was just too tight. They did manage to cause some injuries. The alligator wasn’t invincible. However, the injuries they caused were at most scratches.

The Godly Pressure it exuded made things even worse, as it was highly concentrated, further weakening the cultivators. Once again, it was due to all the Godly Crystals it took earlier from the other Carcatira Alligators.

Of the six Aura Gods, two died, crushed or snapped in two by the alligator’s jaws. The other four, Wurshan included, were taken down and suffered quite some heavy injuries, but they didn’t die. The alligator didn’t try to kill them either. Instead, the black goo from its mouth covered them as well.

Truth be told, eleven Anchor Gods still managed to escape. The alligator considered Wurshan and the Aura Gods its priority, and that bought them the necessary time to get away. However, those Anchor Gods obviously didn’t dare to come back. By the time Roan arrived, they were already far away, going back to the mainland on foot. As to whether they would survive on their own until then, no one knows.

’I can’t hold for much longer...’ Wurshan thought, his consciousness growing hazy. If one looked closely, one would see that Wurshan’s skin was quite dry, and he seemed to have lost most of his muscle. Maybe calling him a skeleton would be a better description. His Godly Energy was pretty much depleted, too.

But then...

*Kabrummm!*

The sound of lightning echoed loudly, even reaching Wurshan inside the goo. Before Wurshan could try to understand what was happening, he felt something grab his shoulder and pull him out.

*Zup!*

*Zup, zup, zup!*

Wurshan opened his eyes a little and immediately recognized who pulled him out. "Roan..."

*ROAR!*

"That’s our cue," Roan said, and immediately shot away, carrying Wurhsan and the other three surviving Aura Gods. Just like Wurshan, they were in a pretty bad shape.

A minute or so later...

*Bang!*

The Alligator Godly Predator landed on the clearing with a bang, its good eye scanning the surroundings and noticing that something had struck the goo where its eggs were located a moment ago.

*ROARRRRRR!!!*

It roared in fury, noticing that quite a few of its eggs had been destroyed. Not all of them, though. Three eggs were still intact, absorbing the little life and godly energy left from the Anchor Gods still trapped in the goo.

It then looked in the direction Roan ran off to. It could sense Roan running away, but he was already quite far. The Alligator struggled a little, its eyes glancing at the only three remaining eggs from time to time. Its instincts told it that if it left now, the remaining eggs might be destroyed as well, so it didn’t move until Roan finally left the range of its detection. Then, without another choice, it lay down near the eggs again. This time, it would not leave the eggs unprotected anymore.

---

Roan kept running, and since this was still the hunting ground of the mission, there weren’t many Carcatira Alligators remaining. Roan alone was enough to keep those four Aura Gods protected until he found a safe place to stop.

Following that, he threw four healing pills into their mouths, speaking coldly. "Focus on recovering a little of your strength."

Wurshan and the others nodded, and with difficulty, they sat and absorbed the pills. The pills were definitely very good, but far from enough to bring them back to their peak. They also didn’t have much time, so Roan couldn’t wait there forever. "Can you run now?"

Wurshan and the other Aura Gods looked at each other, nodding. "We won’t be of much help, though."

"That’s enough. We need to leave the Carcatira Alligators area as soon as possible. I’m not sure if that Godly Predator will stay put forever," Roan said.

Wurshan got up, asking what was on everyone’s minds. "What about the others back in the clearing?"

Roan was blunt. "Necessary sacrifice."

How did this end up like that? How did Roan manage to save them? To answer that question, we need to go back a few hours...
