Chapter 4270: Unexpected Payment
Chapter 4270: Unexpected Payment
After just a few minutes of running, the Godly Beasts soon became the front-runners. They were a level above the Godly Spawns, after all. Nonetheless, Kentucky’s method worked just fine. They had no intelligence, and when those feathers hit them, they couldn’t tell where they came from. Thus, they simply assumed the guides running ahead were the culprits, which only made them madder.
That was to be expected, as this was a thick forest. Seeing Kentucky, who was flying far above, through the foliage was anything but easy. Even if they saw him, the Godly Beasts would likely ignore him. There were no flying Godly Creatures in this group to give support either.
Since Kentucky couldn’t kill a single Godly Spawn with that method, what can one say about the Godly Beasts? Obviously, Kentucky barely injured them at all.
In any case, that only helped Rean, Roan, and Celis behind. The Godly Beasts were further ahead, and they failed to notice the number of Godly Spawns going down little by little.
33...
29...
23...
15...
10...
Finally, the Godly Beasts stopped. It wasn’t because they noticed Kentucky. Instead, it was because they could now feel the Sacred Relic’s Influence reaching their bodies. It was just barely; it didn’t cause them to weaken even a single percent.
However, those affected by the Sacred Relic felt terrible, regardless of how little harm it caused them. By instinct, those four Godly Beasts looked behind and noticed just the moment the last Godly Spawn was taken down by Celis’s vines, leaving behind just a dried husk with the Godly Spawn Crystal inside.
*ROAR!*
There were four Godly Beasts, and the four together could emit enough Godly Pressure to counter the Sacred Relic in this place almost perfectly. They completely gave up on Juanita and the other two guides, charging at the twins’ group instead.
*Flra! Vush!*
*Bang!*
Yet, before they even began to run after Celis, a big Black and White bird came through the foliage of the trees, its talons hitting one of the beast’s back and pressing it to the ground!
"Wow! The lack of the Sanctuary really makes a huge difference!" Kentucky commented, flapping his wings and jumping back before the Godly Beast could have the time to attack him.
The other three Godly Beasts stopped again, and they seemed lost. Should they go after Kentucky, or should they attack Celis, Rean, and Roan?
Well, the twins’ group didn’t give them a chance to think... not that they would think anyway.
’Red Death, Death Cross!’
’Red Life, Lightning Slahs!’
*Swish, swrah!*
The two Godly Beasts that Rean and Roan targeted were almost taken by surprise. However, the Yin Yang Sanctuary wasn’t active, so their Godly Pressure not only kept the Relic’s Influence in check, but it also weakened the twins.
*Roar!*
*Bang! Clang!*
The twins were forced back, but so were the two Godly Beasts. The Beasts still got the worst part of the deal, big injuries on their paws and damage to their claws. Nonetheless, it wasn’t anything too bad yet.
*Zash, zash, zash, zash...*
Celis’ roots shot from the ground, trying to pierce the last Godly Beast, but it was nimble, jumping everywhere and even using the trees to dodge Celis’s assault. Its claws then shone with Golden Color, and it thrashed the roots it failed to dodge in time.
The situation now was at a standstill. Yet...
*Roar!*
One of the Godly Beast roared and turned to the side, charging into the forest. It gave up attacking the twins and simply decided to run! It could tell it wouldn’t win this battle by pure instinct, and since there wasn’t any higher-level Godly Creature to force the issue, it ran as fast as it could!
’Red Life, Enhancement!’
’Red Death, Third Movement Form, Crimson Lightning!’
*Kabrum!*
One could only hear the Red Lightning clap roaring inside Rean’s body as he shot forward like a bullet. He caught up to the scared Godly Creature in just a few seconds! "So you aren’t completely idiotic. You can still tell, even if by just instinct, that the situation was too dangerous and not worth it."
’Red Life, Crimson Stellar Piercer!’
*Roar!*
Without another choice, the Godly Beast turned around to face Rean. However, when it tried to flee, it had exposed an opening, and it simply didn’t have enough time to finish turning before Rean caught up to it.
*Puft!*
Rean’s Crystal Void Sword pierced its head, cutting through the brain. It didn’t die straight away, though. The fact that it still reacted to Rean’s attack was enough for the Crystal Void Sword not to penetrate too deeply. In any case, it was just a question of time.
Not far from there, the other three Godly Beasts also tried to run as soon as they saw their companion make the first move. But then again, to run away from the twins’ group was anything but easy.
The pursuit and the attacks continued for another two minutes, the injuries on the Godly Beasts’ bodies increasing with each attempt of escape. At some point, they understood that they couldn’t run anymore and finally faced the twins’ group head-on. They were at their most dangerous state; real cornered beasts are always the hardest to deal with.
Too bad the twins’ group had seen these types of situations way too many times. They just acted a little more carefully, and the injuries already on the Godly Beasts’ Bodies pretty much did the rest.
When the first one fell, it was over. Rean, who got the first Godly Beast down, joined forces with Celis, and the two finished the second Godly Beast. Celis and Rean, obviously, joined Roan and Kentucky, and the last two Godly Beasts fell a little later. It was over.
"Phew..." Rean truly felt his reserves of Godly Energy quite low, no more than 20% of the total. "They are only Godly Beasts, and they are already this hard when we don’t use the Yin Yang Sanctuary. I hope to not see a Godly Predator anytime soon."
Roan nodded, but he was satisfied with the experience. "We had to test ourselves without the Sanctuary. We can fight the Godly Beasts, but we need to be careful when we do so. If the Godly Spawns were all alive still, taking these Godly Beasts down would be nearly impossible. The Sanctuary could make it possible, but just a single minute is not something I’m willing to bet all my cards on."
Rean and the others nodded.
A few moments later, Juanita, Roland, and the other guide returned, their faces pale like ghosts. Several times, it looked like they would be caught by the Godly Beasts before Kentucky intervened. That was a terrifying experience.
"Oh, welcome back!" Rean smiled at them as he opened the head of one of the Godly Beasts to take its Godly Crystal. "How do you feel? You should be very proud to finally participate in one of the attacks, uh? For new cultivators like the three of you, this was an invaluable experience too."
Juanita’s mouth twitched. "Does throwing us down a cliff and making us run for our lives count as experience?"
*Vush!*
Suddenly, Juanita saw something flying in her direction, giving her only enough time to react and catch it. When she saw what it was, she was taken aback. "This... It’s the Godly Beast Crystal!"
She wasn’t the only one. Roland and the other guide, Semerio, also got one each!
Rean smiled. "You three helped, didn’t you? That’s your part. You can exchange it for Godly Spawn Crystals and share the value between the three of you, or keep it for yourselves. You decide. Just don’t forget you also have taxes to pay."
Juanita and the others quickly changed their opinion. It was definitely worth the risk! "Thank you!"
In this place, Anchor Gods are expected to fight Godly Spawns at most. There was almost no chance of acquiring a Godly Beast Crystal, let alone three!
They didn’t kill a single thing, only ran away, so they weren’t expecting to get anything out of it. It was a Godly Beast’s Crystal! Not a Godly Spawn!
In any case, that group of Godly Creatures was done with. It was time to go back and recover... Well, the twins’ group first asked to go to the other half of Area F17, where there was Natural Godly Pressure. After all, they couldn’t recover without it. Besides, the authorization to leave the Sacred Relic’s Influence was still in place.
