Death… And Me

Chapter 3995: Couple?

Chapter 3995: Couple?

Rean let go of the snake, which tried to open a Spatial Gate again. Obviously, it did not work, as everything inside that place was under their control. Seeing that it couldn’t open the Spatial, it tried to slither away... at the speed of a regular snake of that size.

Rean couldn’t help but wonder. "Is this really it? Doesn’t seem very smart..."

"It did open a Spatial Gate, didn’t it?" Kentucky asked back.

Roan ignored all that. "Sister Orb, how is it?"

Sister Orb was already checking the snake and the soul connection.

[This snake... it is truly nothing but a common snake.]

"Wait, what?!" Everyone turned in her direction. "Are you saying we captured the wrong thing? Then, what about the Time Plate inside it?"

[Calm down. I’m not saying this is the wrong snake. I’m saying it is truly nothing but a normal snake, but it is the right one. Now that it is here, I can see better. The soul energy that is connected to all the Time Plates is coming from this snake. Or, to be more specific, the Time Plate inside it.]

She continued. [I’m not blocking this type of connection anymore, so it became even more apparent now that it is connected to all Time Plates outside, too. I can feel millions of soul energy threads leading to this snake and going out of our Dimensional Realm.]

Sister Orb couldn’t help but play a little bit. [By the way, if I cut the connection of this little guy with the outside world... the Future Realm would probably collapse straight away. How about I give it a try?]

"Absolutely not!" Everyone said at the same time.

Roan’s mind went back to their previous assumption after that. "If what Sister Orb said is true, then we weren’t wrong. The Chronoblade Serpent’s Soul is inside a Time Plate. It’s just that it is inside the smallest Time Plate we have seen so far."

Rean then approached the tiny snake with his CD, using his power to lift it in midair. "This is the one, Senior Laiana."

-Xyrath, can you hear me?-

The snake kept trying to get away, but no answer came from it.

"Why are we getting no response?" Rean asked, curious.

"I told you," Tanxan commented, "the quest was about freeing the Primordial Beasts. The Chronoblade Serpent’s Soul is probably sealed inside this tiny Time Plate."

"Makes sense..." Rean pondered a bit. "What I can’t understand is how it managed to open Spatial Gates to run away from us. If Xyrath’s Soul is imprisoned inside, how is it opening Spatial Gates for this snake? Better than that, how was the snake always looking straight at us when we approached it outside, if it was nothing but a regular snake?"

"Can we separate the snake from the Time Plate?" Foliana suggested.

"That should be easier," Rean controlled the space around the little snake, teleporting the snake a few tens of meters away. If the Time Plate was immune to those Spatial Pulls, the snake should have disappeared, but the Time Plate should have stayed behind.

Yet, both the snake and the Time Plate teleported together, making Rean confused. "That didn’t work like outside..."

[This is our Dimensional Realm, idiot. Here, we are gods. If you want the Time Plate to teleport, it will teleport.] Sister Orb then focused on the Time Plate alone, teleporting it away from the snake’s body. Sure enough, it worked. [See? Easy.]

"Hey, the snake!" Celis pointed out.

They looked over, seeing the outcome of that action. "It’s dead?"

Indeed. As soon as the Time Plate was taken away from it, the little snake died. Not only that, but it dried up, leaving nothing but a husk behind.

-No, that’s wrong,- Laiana saw everything and corrected them. -It’s not that it died. Instead, it was already dead by the time it got here. I have probably been dead for a long time, too. The Time Plate was what kept it alive. It was showing a different possible future where this snake didn’t die. Because it was such a small creature without any powers, it was possible to do so.-

-I told you before how Xyrath can’t force those fake possible futures into other beings, right? Well, that’s because they have too much power for him to do such a thing. Even a simple Stage One Demon Beast would already be impossible. This little snake, however, was truly nothing but an extremely weak and tiny animal, with no power whatsoever.-

"So... the snake was being controlled by the Time Plate?" Rean and Roan asked at the same time.

-Yes,- Laiana confirmed. -Also, bring me close to the Time Plate now.-

The twins nodded, and Rean put the CD just by the tiny Time Plate’s side. "Is this it?"

-Yes, just a moment.-

Laiana seemed to focus for a few seconds, and then...

-Ahem...-

-IF YOU DON’T STOP FUCKING PRETENDING, I’M MAKING YOU MY TENTACLES UNTANGLER FOR THE NEXT TEN BILLION YEARS!-

*Crack!*

As soon as she said that, the tiny Time Plate seemed to crack, a powerful Soul Energy rushed out, and a furious voice echoed.

"YOUR GIANT ASS! Why don’t you go after Soltrex? Uh?! He has that kind of patience! I don’t care what you want. I’m absolutely not doing that shit ever again!"

Everyone looked at that with weird expressions.

"So... he was just pretending he couldn’t hear us?" Kentucky pointed out the obvious.

-Trust me, no one is better than Xyrath when he needs to ’slither away’ from his responsibilities.-

Xyrath saw there was no point pretending anymore, so he didn’t hold back. "What fucking responsibilities? Since when is untangling your tentacles anyone’s responsibility?"

-You lost the bet, so it is your responsibility now.-

"No fucking way! I lost, yes! But I already paid that bet by doing it once. No one said anything about being stuck with that shit forever."

-You are a sore loser!-

"Ha! Bite me! No, wait! You can’t! Because no one can catch me! Hahaha!"

Kentucky whispered to Rean on his side. "Should we bring them to couples therapy?"

Rean nodded slightly, whispering back. "Sounds fun. Let me be the therapist."

Laiana and Xyrath heard that, though. "Who the hell are a couple?!"
