Chapter 88: Not Being Human Is Chillingly Lonely
The hotel located in the city center was first grade, and it had an unbeatable underground carpark.
If someone really wanted to protect his or her own identity and remain anonymous, the hotel would make special arrangements for the use of their alternative entrance.
Fu Sichen was a good example.
It also prevented Pei Zhen from clearly seeing what was happening outside.
He picked up his ears and listened carefully. The scolding that he heard earlier had stopped, and it was quiet all around. He found it was impossible to tell where the voice came from.
“What’s up?” Fu Sichen looked around when he sensed that the Persian cat wasn’t behaving normally. “What are you looking for?”
Was it just his imagination?
Pei Zhen watched a movie on The Loyal Dog Hachiko the night before. He couldn’t remember much of the conversations that took place on the show, but the story was unforgettable—it was sad and very touching.
Perhaps he was just emotionally affected, and that made him imagine things.
Pei Zhen felt better if he thought that way. When Fu Sichen asked, he shook his head, signaling that nothing was wrong.
Fu Sichen and the cat got into the lift. When they reached the apartment, Fu Sichen poured Pei Zhen some milk.
“Wait for a moment; it will be ready soon.”
Fu Sichen had been living alone for many years at that point, but he wasn’t exactly a homely person.
Normally, he would do take-out rather than cook his own meals, even more so since he was filming the next day.
So, Pei Zhen was quite gleeful when he noticed that Fu Sichen was heading into the kitchen with his sleeves rolled up.
Although he didn’t like his sworn enemy, he loved his cooking.
Taking the opportunity of Fu Sichen being in the kitchen, Pei Zhen turned and ran into the bedroom.
The was a belief that the most dangerous place was often the safest place. Following that, Pei Zhen had hidden the mobile phone he used for communicating with Xiao Nian in Fu Sichen’s bedroom.
He hid it in the wardrobe in the bedroom.
Pei Zhen pulled the mobile out from amongst a pile of clothes and hurriedly sent Xiao Nian a text message.
[Daddy Pei]: Son, why was that pervert Fu Sichen looking for you today?
Xiao Nian responded quickly, showing just how much free time he had ever since he lost Pei Zhen as his artiste.
[Xiao Nian Nian]: He’s starting to suspect that you turned into a cat. But, Daddy, don’t you worry. With my ingenuity, I managed to talk him out of that idea!
Pei Zhen unconsciously winced and speculated what ‘ingenuity’ might mean.
[Daddy Pei]: Are you sure that Fu Sichen no longer suspects?
[Xiao Nian Nian]: Daddy, you’re doubting your son’s IQ!
[Daddy Pei]: I’m not questioning it, I’m just doing a reasonable analysis.
[Nian Nian]: …
No matter how worried he was, after rounds of reassurance and explanations from Xiao Nian, Pei Zhen eventually accepted that Fu Sichen didn’t suspect anything.
After all, something like a human turning into a cat defied science.
After confirming the reason for Fu Sichen looking up Xiao Nian, Pei Zhen reminded Xiao Nian to keep looking for a Shaman. At the same time, he went onto the internet to check the Weibo hot searches.
Today’s hot search was still the topic of Comrade Fu Sichen.
Once the filming of War of the Pets finished, the programme team hurriedly increased publicity efforts. Of course, Best Actor Fu was their selling point.
Some of the funny highlights from the filming process were released, and they easily captured the attention of the fans. Big Brother Parrot even earned himself some fans among the rich housewives, through his fluent rendition of ‘Beyond stupid!’
It was chillingly lonely not being human. Pei Zhen had to use a fake account, fearful that people would discover his identity.
Pei Zhen was just about to look through the messages that the fans had posted, for his Persian cat self, when a video call came in.
The Condor Heroes, Yang Guo.
