Chapter 87: Assassin!
Chapter 87: Assassin!
Brother Long had a face full of smiles, but the smile didn’t quite reach his eyes. Chen Yi, on the other hand, didn’t seem to care, he hoped that Zhang Xiao Qiang would leave quickly. After all, this secluded place could not possibly hold him. What’s more, he had thoroughly offended Brother Long today, on top of crippling Old Hairy. It meant that he had offended everyone else.
Yuan Yi had crippled Old Hairy, Brother Long’s authority was undermined by Zhang Xiao Qiang. Zhang Xiao Qiang’s displeasure was vented, he didn’t feel that Yuan Yi was in the wrong. What the hell was Old Hairy’s problem? He dared to take liberties with his people, if he didn’t make an example out of him, others would think he was easy to bully, no?
Yuan Yi felt great, he felt great himself as well. Brother Long could go and fuck himself for all he cared.
When they went back to the basement room, Zhang Xiao Qiang told Yuan Yi and Su Qian to step out, while he held Yang Ke’er back.
“Is your relationship with Brother Long good?” He took a puff on his cigarette as he asked.
“Not really, we seldom meet anyway, at most, it would be once every year! What’s the matter?” Yang Ke’er didn’t understand why Zhang Xiao Qiang would suddenly ask this question.
“If Brother Long wanted to kill me, who will you help?” Zhang Xiao Qiang finally came to the point.
“How is that possible? Isn’t your relationship good?” Yang Ke’er was after all still young and didn’t understand the complexity of the situation. If it were Su Qian or Yuan Yi, they would know better than to ask this. They had already seen the friction in the relationship.
“I’ll ask once more. If Brother Long wants to kill me, whose side will you stand on?”
Zhang Xiao Qiang’s expression was serious, if Yang Ke’er decided to stand by her relative side, then he would immediately leave with Yuan Yi. Even though he disliked her, her performance had been satisfactory, at the very least, she was stronger than He Wen Bin and the rest. Furthermore, she was still respectful to him, and he was slightly at ease with her. She could drive as well. As for Su Qian? He couldn’t factor her into his plans, her thoughts were too deep, he hadn’t the time to fully understand her.
Yang Ke’er felt something amiss, and her face turned slightly pale. Her breathing also became slightly ragged. She looked at Zhang Xiao Qiang’s serious face and replied while stammering: “Of course it’s you, you’re my husband, after all, I’ve already decided to follow you for life.”
She paused for a while before continuing: “What’s more, my parents didn’t like Uncle, last time Grandaunt had been hospitalized over him.”
When Zhang Xiao Qiang heard her express her thoughts, his expression relaxed. He looked at her and spoke sincerely: “In the future, whatever he asks of you, ignore him.”
“En!” She nodded, her face tight.
Zhang Xiao Qiang then shooed her out and kept his cigarettes and wine. He then placed his secret stash of films together with the stash of sexy lingerie within a set of camouflage uniform. He then sealed it with tape. There was no choice. Yang Ke’er like to rummage through his stuff, and if she saw what she liked, she would just take it without regards for his feelings. He felt like he was hiding dirty money.
After he had packed everything up, he heaved a sigh of relief and propped his legs up while puffing on his cigarettes. He thought back to how Yuan Yi had crippled Old Hairy, he could have stopped her, true, but after seeing Brother Long, he had allowed Yuan Yi to vent her anger. He wanted to test Brother Long, and true enough, they were the sort that did not do anything to the strong but would pick on the weak. Without the guns in their hands, they were nothing.
Who said that otakus didn’t have plans? After all, otakus had spent a number of years in society before, and they had seen all sorts of characters and backstabbing. How could he allow his years of being taken advantage of go to waste?
Again, thoughts of his next move began to occupy his mind, causing him some headache. He did not have the chance to roam the country in the past, and he did not know the situation anywhere else. He knew that Tibet was sparsely populated, he had seen the huge amount of area on the map. However, he didn’t know how to operate a plane or train, how could he get there?
The door opened again, and Yuan Yi came in with a basin like the day before, intending to help Zhang Xiao Qiang with his bath. He looked at her strangely, her expression was normal, indifferent even, there was no sign of unwillingness or repulsion. Yet, she also lacked the enthusiasm to serve and wait, and it was all just like a natural sort of thing to her.
He didn’t say anything, after she had displayed her character today, was it getting harder and harder to understand her? Didn’t he already express that she was to take charge of her destiny? However, beyond the slight challenge, the initiative to ask him for cigarettes and eating together, she had not asked for anything else.
Just like the day before, she helped him to wipe his face and back, before kneeling to help him wash his feet, she even checked the temperature herself first. Her actions caused him to be bewildered, and as he watched her, there was none of the enjoyment of the comfort like yesterday. The Yuan Yi today was entirely different from the Yuan Yi yesterday.
Yesterday, she was still a weakling. It was natural for Zhang Xiao Qiang to enjoy her services. However, today, he had explicitly told her there was no need for her to kneel, and to be like a dog. She could walk her own path like a normal person. Yet here she was willing to do something like this even though her life had changed.
After cleaning him thoroughly, she grabbed a hold of ‘Little Xiao Qiang’ just like yesterday, her eyes waiting for Zhang Xiao Qiang’s signal. However, he was not in the mood for it. He really didn’t understand what she was thinking and waved his hand to send her back. He wore his clothes and laid on the bed. Today, he had fallen out with Brother Long. For a peace of mind, he decided to keep his military knife under the pillow.
A shadow appeared by the window, even the pale moonlight could not drive him away. The shadow began to move, and it reached out gently to stick a metal card and fidgeted about. The sound was like a little mouse scurrying about.
Soon, the window was pried open, and the shadow leaped in, with something like a steel bar in his hands as he moved towards the bed.
As the silhouette reached the bed, before he could raise the steel bar, the blanket was suddenly thrown over him. Without waiting for him to react, a leg kicked out, sending him tumbling towards the ground. Just as he came to a stop, a person sat on top of him and the silhouette within the blankets muttered a groan.
Zhang Xiao Qiang stood barefooted, and he saw a head pop out from the blankets. The person seemed to be struggling, and the moment his head popped out, Zhang Xiao Qiang pounced on him with his knife. The person immediately stammered: “Don’t kill me, I’m ……..”
Zhang Xiao Qiang couldn’t care less about the following words. With one leg in front the other stepping on the man’s chest, the military knife slashed across the neck of the intruder. The man stared wide-eyed at Zhang Xiao Qiang, his right hand grasping at his neck, before he slumped back against the floor, staring at the ceiling as he thrashed about. Zhang Xiao Qiang covered the head with the blanket again, and the room regained its peace and tranquility. There was only the slightest sound from within the blankets.
He didn’t want to know if it was a person sent by Brother Long or not. Even if he knew, so what? He was just a passerby, once the chance came, he would leave. Who’s to say this wasn’t a trap? It was possible that the assassin was sent by Chen Yi. If he accidentally alerted the opponent, then he was inviting trouble. Without revealing anything, it was equivalent to taking down one of the enemy’s trump card. Everyone would be able to twist the logic to fit their story, hence, Zhang Xiao Qiang couldn’t be bothered to listen, and immediately finished him off.
Seeing that the clock read half past twelve, and there was a dead body in his room, Zhang Xiao Qiang could not continue sleeping in his room. He decided to head to Yang Ke’er’s room. He found his bag and packed his luggage and left the room.
The living room was dark, and he borrowed the light from his phone to light the way. He saw 2 doors and was stunned momentarily, which was the right door? He suddenly felt that it was an inconvenience without texting.
He walked up to a door and tried its handle. It wasn’t locked, and he pushed it lightly before walking in with huge steps. He knew that once Yang Ke’er slept, she could not be woken up. Hence, he didn’t care, and when he caught sight of the Beast Horn Spear on the table, he knew this was Yang Ke’er’s room.
