Chapter 1169 - Divine Temple
Chapter 1169: Divine Temple
“Of course not, the power of the Twin Serpents of Light and Darkness is not something that ordinary people can imagine. It is said that they maintain the balance of the entire dimensional universe, but do not interfere with the operation of any laws. They can even be considered transcendent beings. Legend had it that during the mythological era, the gods would copy the concept of the Twin Serpents of Light and Darkness, and create their incarnations to maintain the balance of the Divine Kingdom for the sake of the stability thereof during the creation of the Divine Kingdom.”
However, Lin Li did not ignore the information that Connoris had revealed just because of that reason. He hurriedly probed, “Do you mean that that Radiant-winged Giant Python just now was probably one of the Twin Serpents of Light and Darkness created by some god?”
“The Twin Serpents of Light and Darkness consist of the Serpent of Light that controls the Power of Light, named Shagar, and the Serpent of Darkness that controls the Dark Force, called Intoro. The Radiant-winged Giant Python that we encountered before might be the incarnation of the Serpent of Light,” Connoris said with a worried expression.
Lin Li also felt the same about Connoris’ worries. If the Radiant-winged Giant Python was really Shagar the Serpent of Light, the Divine Kingdom of a certain deity had probably really descended on this place. Besides, he also remembered the words that he had seen in the ruins outside that a Divine Kingdom had been mentioned.
Although the Radiant-winged Giant Python, or rather the incarnation of Shagar the Serpent of Light, had revealed some shocking information that there might have been a Divine Kingdom descending here, it actually didn’t seem that unbelievable to Lin Li on second thought. After all, the ancient god that the Illuminati believed in existed in this place. He could only say that the strength of that ancient god was somewhat beyond Lin Li’s expectations.
Lin Li was naturally able to guess that the Divine Kingdom that was likely to have descended should be the one created by the ancient god Zagar that the Illuminati believed in. Otherwise, the incarnation of the Serpent of Light Shagar would not have fallen to this level. He could imagine that during the groundbreaking war that the Immortal King had gone to with the ancient god Zagar, Zagar’s Divine Kingdom had been destroyed, and Zagar had been suppressed somewhere here.
Hence, proving that there was a Divine Kingdom descending here could only mean that the Immortal King was incredibly powerful, so much so that he could even suppress an ancient god that owned a Divine Kingdom. As for that ancient god Zagar, he had been suppressed by the Immortal King, after all. As long as these people from the Gilded Kingdom didn’t really come to wake him up, he wouldn’t be too much of a worry for Lin Li even if he was extremely powerful.
However, this information that Connoris revealed also made Lin Li think of another problem. Since the incarnation of Shagar, one of the Twin Serpents of Light and Darkness, had appeared, the incarnation of the Serpent of Darkness was probably not far away.
Of course, after taking out the incarnation of the Serpent of Light Shagar, Lin Li was not that worried about the incarnation of the Serpent of Darkness Intoro. Since they were called Twin Serpents of Light and Darkness, they should be similar in strength, and since they now had a way to kill the Serpent of Light, it should be much easier to deal with the Serpent of Darkness when they encountered it as well.
“Legend has it that the incarnations of the Twin Serpents of Light and Darkness might have been created by the gods for the sake of stabilizing their Divine Kingdoms, but they have a relatively extraordinary status in the Divine Kingdoms. It can be said that in the eyes of the divine servants of the Divine Kingdom, the incarnations of the Twin Serpents of Light and Darkness possess the same status as the god they believe in.” While speaking, Connoris scanned his surroundings, as if he was trying to find something in the desert.
Lin Li was a little puzzled. Connoris looked around, but he did not manage to see anything in the desert. Hence, the former couldn’t help but ask, “Do you think that this has anything to do with our current exploration?”
“Legend has it that in the Divine Kingdoms, the gods will create their own temples for their servants to worship and conduct sacrificial rituals in order to gain the power of faith. Due to the supreme status that the Twin Serpents of Light and Darkness have in the Divine Kingdoms, they will also be worshiped and receive offerings in the temples. That’s the only way that the incarnations of the Twin Serpents of Light and Darkness can get the power of the real Twin Serpents of Light and Darkness in order to maintain the balance of the Divine Kingdom,” Connoris explained.
Hearing Connoris’s explanation, Lin Li’s eyes suddenly lit up. After coming to a sudden realization, he said, “Do you mean that there’s probably a temple for the Twin Serpents of Light and Darkness here? If we can find the temple of the Twin Serpents of Light and Darkness, we might be able to find out something more about this place.”
The Illuminati said that this was their sacred land that was meant for them to worship the ancient god Zagar, but in Lin Li’s opinion, it was somewhat not credible, because he had seen lots of things that were older than the Illuminati along the way, especially after walking into those underground ruins. In other words, this place might have existed a long time ago, in an era when the Illuminati probably hadn’t been established yet.
At this juncture, the team of the Gilded Kingdom was already prepared to set off, but Elder Zumar deliberately ran over to ask Lin Li’s opinion. Initially, Elder Zumar opposed High Priest Poer’s decision to deal with the Tower of Dusk only because he didn’t want to create unnecessary trouble in the mission. However, after the battle with the Radiant-winged Giant Python, Elder Zumar was already completely certain of the significance of the team of the Tower of Dusk to his own mission this time. Or rather, it could also be considered the attitude of Saint Edmund, but he could not attack right away. Hence, Edmund asked Elder Zumar to inform the Tower of Dusk of their stand on behalf of himself.
Lin Li did not talk to Elder Zumar about the Twin Serpents of Light and Darkness, nor did he mention anything about the temple. Instead, he readily agreed to follow the Gilded Kingdom and depart. However, by the time the two teams set off again, Lin Li was thinking about just how he should find the temple of the Twin Serpents of Light and Darkness.
In fact, Lin Li knew that whether that temple existed or not was still a problem. After all, what Connoris said was only a legend from the mythological era. Besides, given the current situation, the temple would have probably long been turned into dust even if there had been one.
Of course, as long as there was a small sliver of possibility, Lin Li would still want to give it a try. If he really found something, it would be of great help to the exploration this time. However, Lin Li had no clue how he should start searching. There was nothing but yellow sand around them, so God knew where the temple was hidden.
After following the Gilded Kingdom’s team for a while, Lin Li suddenly felt a little movement from the power of the Serpent of Light bound in the debris of the stars, Holy Light. That gave Lin Li some inspiration. Since the incarnations of the Twin Serpents of Light and Darkness were originally worshiped in the temple, could the power of the Serpent of Light be used to find the temple where they were worshiped?
Hence, Lin Li didn’t alarm anyone beside him, and instead quietly released an extremely tiny strand of the power of the Serpent of Light in the Holy Light. After the power was released, it shuttled to a desert area in the distance, and vanished as if it had been attracted by something.
Fortunately, when the wisp of power of the Serpent of Light was released, Lin Li used his mental strength to focus on it in order not to lose track of it. After tracking down the location where the wisp of power had vanished, Lin Li immediately led the team there without bothering to inform the people of the Gilded Kingdom.
Only when the team from the Gilded Kingdom in front of him walked a little further did they realize that the team of the Tower of Dusk, which was following behind just now, had gone in another direction. High Priest Poer was enraged, but after considering that he wasn’t capable enough, and especially since he had witnessed how terrifying Lin Li was after the previous battle with the Serpent of Light, he decided not to run directly to the Tower of Dusk’s team and curse at them.
However, High Priest Poer did not want to leave it at that, and immediately ran to Saint Edmund in a bid to convince him to deal with the Tower of Dusk. Although Lin Li had shown terrifying power in the previous battle with the Serpent of Light, Poer felt that Lin Li had to have paid a considerable price to be able to exhibit such powerful methods. Hence, he thought that it was the best time to deal with them.
However, Edmund’s attitude seemed a little ambiguous this time. After raising his hand to stop High Priest Poer from continuing to complain, he stopped giving Poer any more hints, and instead asked Elder Zumar to go to the Tower of Dusk’s team to clarify matters.
At this juncture, Lin Li had also arrived at the place where the power of the Serpent of Light had disappeared together with his team. It looked just the same as the other areas, with a large patch of yellow sand everywhere. However, according to his mental strength tracking, Lin Li knew that the temple he was looking for was probably underneath this yellow sand.
“President Felic, Saint Edmund asked me to ask you if you have found something again.” Just as Lin Li was getting ready to excavate it, Elder Zumar also rushed over to ask for advice without any aggressive questioning.
“Oh, it’s nothing, I just think that there might be something down here. Elder Zumar, if you’re willing, you may stay behind together and take a look with us. If you don’t want to delay, you can also go ahead, and we’ll get there soon.” Lin Li didn’t hide anything, mainly because he also considered the fact that Intoro, the incarnation of the Serpent of Darkness, hadn’t appeared yet, so he guessed that it might be hiding in the temple. Although he already had a way to deal with the incarnation of the Serpent of Darkness, he needed someone to hold it down and restrain it.
“What can there be?” Elder Zumar looked at the desert in bewilderment, only to find that it looked just like the rest of the desert. However, out of curiosity, he decided to stay behind and take a look. Hence, he said, “Since President Felic doesn’t mind, I’ll stay behind and take a look too.”
Lin Li ignored Elder Zumar, and instead raised the Helios’ Scepter after determining the location, and cast several tornadoes which were made to rotate continuously in a certain area, blowing a large amount of the yellow sand on the ground upwards before propelling it elsewhere.
Finally, after a layer of sand that was several meters thick had been removed, the corner of a building was revealed. Seeing this, Lin Li was over the moon, and he immediately increased the power of the tornado excavation. Soon, a somewhat dilapidated temple was completely exposed at the bottom of the huge sand pit.
In the beginning, Elder Zumar still felt that Lin Li was fooling around, and even thought about how he should go up to persuade Lin Li after seeing that nothing had been dug up. However, after he saw the dilapidated temple that was slowly being revealed, he got riled up, and hurriedly asked Lin Li, “President Felic, do you think I can invite Saint Edmund to come here to this building too? After all, he’s a saint who has some knowledge of this place, he might be able to find more information here that will be useful to us.”
Lin Li was thinking of getting a few more people to guard against the appearance of the incarnation of the Serpent of Darkness, and Elder Zumar’s timely interjection was just what he wanted. Hence, he nodded graciously, and said to Elder Zumar, “No problem. I’ll have to trouble you to make a trip then, Elder Zumar.”
As soon as Elder Zumar got the green light from Lin Li, he replied politely before immediately returning to the team of the Gilded Kingdom, and informed Saint Edmund about the situation. Soon, the team from the Gilded Kingdom, too, changed direction and rushed over to the temple. On the other hand, Saint Edmund, Elder Zumar, and High Priest Poer, the three Sanctuary powerhouses, were ahead of them as they arrived at the edge of the large sand pit.
“I didn’t expect that there was actually a temple buried under this boundless yellow sand!” Edmund recognized the dilapidated building immediately, but he didn’t bother to find out from Lin Li just how it had been discovered. If it had been in the past, Edmund would have asked about it, but after the previous battle, he had begun to perceive Lin Li as a Sanctuary powerhouse who was on the same level as himself, so his attitude naturally changed.
After unearthing the dilapidated temple, Lin Li scrutinized and searched it with his mental strength, but he did not find the power of the incarnation of the Dark Serpent. After waiting for Edmund and the others to come over, he invited, “Saint Edmund, if you’re interested, why don’t we go in together and take a look? We might make an unexpected discovery.”
Although this place was known as the sacred land of the Illuminati, Lin Li was the one who had unearthed the temple; hence, without Lin Li taking the lead, Edmund would not have the cheek to enter. After hearing Lin Li’s invitation, Edmund had a change of opinion towards Lin Li, regardless of what happened between them before this.
On the one hand, Lin Li brought his Undead servants and Connoris, while on the other hand, Edmund led the other two Sanctuary powerhouses to the bottom of the giant pit, where they entered through the run-down and shabby door of the temple.
The style of the temple was a stark contrast to the buildings outside. It was not lavish or opulent, and was instead rather plain and simple.
